Having a teenager definitely gives me lots of material for scrapbooking as well as art journal pages.  He's been having some trouble in school, just sitting in class and not turning in his work.  When his teachers or I ask him about it he just shrugs his shoulders.  It can be very frustrating, especially knowing how smart he is.  And thus this LO was born.  Say hello to scrap therapy!

I wanted to play with some steampunk kits I bought recently. I love all the rust and grunge, but it needed texture. I used a stencil font and one of the PSE paint spray brushes to spray paint the background. I also used some gesso borders and recolored them. Then a little Disappear It action on the title and I was done.

Shiny Happy People

Soul Scrappers is having another song lyic challenge.  I really enjoy those.  This time around it was R.E.M.'s Shiny Happy People.  When I watched the video everyone was dancing and the backgrounds had bright colors.  I immediatley thought about this picture I have of my boys doing a happy dance on their way to the shooting range.  We had to use lyrics or the title on our page so I chose "Take It To Town" which is part of the lyrics.  Jacob helped me come up with our own song.  A collaborative effort!  And I'm still playing around with drop shadows.

It was great fun working on this since I normally don't use such bright colors.  If you haven't been over to Souls Scrappers in a while you should check it out.  They have lots of challenges going on that cover all kinds of subjects and projects, not just scrapbooking pages.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

I stated at the beginning of the year that I joined the Art Journal Caravan 2012 as an incentive to learn PSE.  I made myself promise that all LOs would be done in PSE.  Each time I do a LO I try to learn a new skill or experiment with an action or effect.  For this LO I played around with drop shadows and text shapes.  I tried using varying depths of shadows to give the feel of the ocean moving, kind of like the way old puppet shows would do their stage sets.

Today I received notice that my LO was being featured at

http://tangiebaxter.com/news/latest-news/
for this week's caravan highlights.  I was so surprised and honored.  The funny part is this isn't even the LO I wanted to create when I first started it...LOL.  I am learning so much on this journey, not just about PSE but also about myself, too.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find time to create today!

PSE Actions in well...Action

An action is a group of photo effects bundled into one package that when used helps take you through a series of prompts to get the desired effect.  For this LO I saw a really cool action by Wendyzine Scraps called "Disappear It".  The Winged Woman was a detailed graphic that through the action became this 3D image outline with all the details removed so that I could use it for my journaling.

I also used this action on the photos of myself.  I just changed how I responded to some of the prompts and voila I had these great near transparent images.  So even though the action is created for a specific outcome you can manipulate it to a certain extent to get the effect you want.

I then used Tangi Baxter's Paperworn Action to help the images merge with the background paper.  CAUTION!  This action is extremely addictive and once you start it may be difficult to stop.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

A Day of Duh Huhs

This LO is for the Quote Challenge over at Soul Scrappers.  When I read the quote about the mud I knew I wanted to scrap about the day my son was playingin the mud puddles.  One problem...I had no pictures, only video.  What to do, what to do...well I pulled out the manual for my video camera and found out that the CD that came with my camera has a video editing program!  Can I get a Duh Huh?!  It's definitely going to take some practice, but not too bad for first efforts.  Okay, second Duh Huh of the day was when I finally made the connection that I could write on my digital LO.  Go ahead, you can say it, I did...Duh Huh!  All I had to do was creat a new layer and select the pen tool and move my mouse like a pen, Bah Da Bing, Bah Da Boom!  I recommend the square pen tip, it look's a little better.  And this is another thing that will take some practice, but will be so worth it.

Well there it is, my day of Duh Huhs.  I learned so much working on this LO and had fun, too.  I hope you have a chance to have some fun today.  Thanks for stopping by.
